Reading:

This week, we will continue to look at how authors support their opinions with reasons and evidence so that we can do that in our own opinion writing!

We will continue to work on Keyboarding Without Tears. It's a pilot to determine if it will be purchased  for all students district-wide next year. I have noticed some great keyboarding skills being used already!

Please remember to support your child in attaining the Lexia Pizza party! I would love to purchase pizza for our entire class, but it's up to your child to meet their goal! They must pass all 18 levels OR improve by 3 levels prior to May 18 in order to have a pizza lunch on May 19!

If you have any questions, please let me know - all homework will continue to be listed daily in planners!!

Writing:

We have been studying how authors use evidence and reason to support their opinions so that we can model our writing after that!

Word Study:

All word study groups are up and running again! Daily sorts and weekly meetings will continue through the end of the school year.

Social Studies

In the next 2 weeks, as part of our economics unit, we will be working with the students to develop a business plan. The focus will be on the factors of production, supply and demand, and advertising. To give them a real hands-on experience, we want them to become entrepreneurs.

As entrepreneurs they will identify a product they can easily create and sell on business day.  They will create a business plan and in the plan, they will identify any natural resources, capital goods, and human resources that will go into the product. After the completion of the plan, we encourage the children to actually create the product at home. As they are creating the product, they will need to make an expense list and determine a price in order to make a profit.

Business day will be held on Friday, May 12 from 1:30-3:15 pm at school. Students will bring their products to sell to each other. We will provide paper spending money ($30.00 per student) for this activity.

As we continue to learn about the different kinds of fossils, we will finish up our slide presentation from our fossil dig. This will be completed as teams so everyone has a part to complete and most work will be done in class.
